31 Oct Command Your Legions in the Thrilling Multiplayer Mode of Empire of the Ants !
Featuring a rich, story-driven campaign, Empire of the Ants also allows you to compete against others with its online multiplayer mode. Features and options: we reveal everything in this article.
From 1V1 to 3FFA, the Different Available Options
The development of a multiplayer mode for Empire of the Ants was an obvious choice, as explained by Renaud Charpentier, Game Director at Tower Five: “We are making a strategy game, a genre that could be seen as the ultimate evolution of chess. And in chess, the most interesting part is playing against another human being – it’s the best AI you can get.”
Inspired by titles such as Warcraft III, the multiplayer mode of Empire of the Ants offers two options: one player versus one player, and three players free-for-all. Before each match, competitors specialize their army. They can choose from several powers, support agents (aphids offering healing, snails capable of protecting their troops…), and super predators (from agile asian hornet to ultra-reinforced beetles). Once the game starts, the goal is to develop your army as quickly as possible to conquer the opponent’s base(s)!
“At the end of a skirmish, you can see a complete summary of the match, with all the statistics and movements of the agents, allowing you to understand your mistakes and improve,” says Renaud. Depending on your victories and defeats, Empire of the Ants will assign you a rank and match you against others of similar skill levels. Will you manage to climb to the top of the leaderboard?
Social and Security Features
Empire of the Ants’ multiplayer mode also includes a private match option, allowing you to freely battle against the computer or friends. You can choose from a selection of maps, set the weather conditions, and decide on the behavior of the AIs. “It’s the perfect place to have fun and experiment with strategies,” comments Renaud.
Tower Five has integrated a cross-play feature allowing PC, PS5, and Xbox Series players to compete without restrictions. Those who wish can disable this feature. “However, there is no advantage to using a keyboard-mouse or a controller,” clarifies Renaud. “In our game, it’s not the speed of execution that counts, but the quality of the decisions you make.”
Furthermore, Empire of the Ants will be well-protected against abusive behavior. The game will run on a dedicated server rather than on the players’ clients, making cheating much more difficult. It will also be possible to report other players, who can be suspended in case of repeated offenses. In short, you can lead the fight with your legions with peace of mind!
Long-Term Support by Tower Five
Renaud finally confirms that the multiplayer mode of Empire of the Ants will receive ongoing support. “After the game’s release, we will publish balance updates and patches if necessary, based on community feedback,” says the Game Director. “And if player demand is strong, we may also offer additional content.”
